Your Wealth Took
Decades to Build.
Give us a year to show you
how we’d take care of it.
Private wealth management for individuals and families with $1M+ in investable assets.

One Year to Earn Your Trust
If, after your first year with us, you decide to leave, we’ll refund the advisory fees you paid us during that time.
Eligibility and terms apply. Read the eligibility and terms.
What’s refunded
The advisory fees you paid De Thomas Wealth Management on eligible accounts during your first twelve months.
What isn’t
Costs charged by other firms, fund and product fees, and taxes. The refund is not a guarantee of investment returns.
How you ask for it
Tell us in writing after your first anniversary with us. There’s no pressure to stay.
Changing advisors shouldn’t feel like starting over.
Most people who are unhappy with their advisor stay anyway. The paperwork, the tax questions and the awkward conversation feel like more trouble than it’s worth. Here is how we take that off your plate.
-
We coordinate the transfer of your accounts.
You sign the forms. We handle the rest, including the requests to your current institution. You don’t have to have a conversation with your current advisor unless you want to.
-
We review what you already own before recommending changes.
Moving accounts doesn’t mean selling everything. Some holdings are worth keeping, and selling others could trigger tax or penalties you don’t need to pay.
-
You’ll know what moving costs before you move.
If there are deferred sales charges, transfer-out fees or taxable gains involved, we’ll show you the numbers in writing first, so the decision is yours to make with the full picture.
-
Tax, estate, retirement and investment decisions are made together.
Your portfolio is one part of a larger plan. We look at how each decision affects the others, and we’re glad to work alongside your accountant and lawyer.
What the year actually looks like.
The promise only means something if the year is worth having. This is what you can expect.
-
Before you decide anything
A private conversation
We talk about where you are, what’s working, and what isn’t. There’s no cost and no obligation, and you won’t be asked to sign anything.
-
Before anything moves
A review of what you have now
We look at your current accounts, holdings and fees, and show you what we would keep, what we would change, and why.
-
The first few months
The transition and your plan
We coordinate the transfer and put your plan in writing: investments, tax, retirement income and estate, considered together.
-
Throughout the year
Regular reviews, and someone who answers the phone
We meet through the year to review progress and adjust as your life changes. Between meetings, you call us directly.
-
Your first anniversary
You decide
If we’ve earned your trust, we carry on. If not, you tell us, and the advisory fees you paid us that year are refunded under the terms.
We work with a limited number of families.
A long-term advisory relationship works best when it fits both sides. We typically work with professionals, business owners and families who:
- Have $1M or more in investable assets
- Want more than investment management
- Are approaching retirement or are already retired
- Have increasingly complex tax, estate or family considerations
- Want a long-term relationship with an advisor who knows their situation
Not quite there yet? We’ll still reply personally, and these resources are open to everyone.
One plan, coordinated across six areas.
Most wealth management focuses on investment returns. We coordinate the rest of your financial life around them, so decisions in one area don’t undo the work in another.
Investment management
Portfolios built around your income needs, tax situation and time horizon, and reviewed as those change.
Personal financial planning
Cash flow, RRSP and TFSA strategy, and the order you save and spend in.
Corporate & business planning
Salary versus dividends, holding companies, retained earnings and succession.
Retirement planning
Income projections, CPP and OAS timing, withdrawal order and RRIF planning.
Tax & estate coordination
Tax-efficient placement, probate planning, charitable giving, and working with your accountant and lawyer.
Family & generational planning
Supporting parents and adult children, RESPs, and passing wealth on well.
Insurance & risk coordination
Reviewing the coverage you have and how it fits your estate plan.
De Thomas Wealth Management.
A family practice since 1987.
Changing advisors is a real decision, and for most people it only happens once or twice in a lifetime. We don’t think you should have to make it on the strength of a first meeting.
So we’d rather let the work speak for itself. Spend a year with us. See how we plan, how we communicate, and how quickly we call you back. If it isn’t what you expected, you can leave, and you won’t have paid us for the privilege.

What people usually ask first.
Is there a cost for the first conversation?
No. The first conversation and the review of your current accounts are free, and there’s no obligation to move anything.
How are you paid?
We’ll explain exactly how we’re paid, in dollars, before you decide anything. There should be no surprises on a statement a year from now.
What will it cost me to leave my current advisor?
It depends on what you hold. Some accounts carry transfer-out fees or deferred sales charges, and selling some investments can create a tax bill. We’ll identify these for you in writing before you decide. Often the answer is to transfer investments as they are rather than sell them.
Do I have to move everything at once?
No. Some people start with one account and move the rest once they’re comfortable. We’ll talk through what makes sense for you. Eligibility for the one-year refund depends on the accounts involved, so it’s worth reading the terms.
What happens if I leave after the first year?
You let us know in writing, move your accounts wherever you choose, and we refund the advisory fees you paid us during your first twelve months, as set out in the terms. The refund covers our advisory fees only. It doesn’t cover investment losses, fund and product fees, or charges from other firms.
What if I have less than $1 million?
Please still get in touch. We’ll reply personally and tell you honestly whether we’re the right fit. Our planning tools and The Long View newsletter are free for everyone.
Is my information kept private?
Yes. What you share is used only to respond to you, and is never sold or shared with advertisers. Our privacy notice explains exactly what we collect and why.
Curious what we would do differently?
Tell us a little about yourself. It takes about a minute, and we reply personally within one business day.
- No cost, no obligationThe first conversation is simply a conversation.
- A real personYou’ll hear from an advisor directly, not a call centre.
